What is HealthRise?
HealthRise is a global partnership comprised of global organizations that bring unique strengths to the program – the Medtronic Foundation, Abt Associates and the Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation. The Medtronic Foundation provides vision, thought leadership, and financing to the program. Abt Associates facilitates cross-country knowledge sharing and support for the HealthRise global and country-level programs through coordinated program management, grant management, convening global stakeholder engagement, communications and thought leadership. The Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation (IHME) leads HealthRise community-based needs assessments, literature reviews and monitoring and evaluation in each country with support from local partners.

For HealthRise, Abt Associates implements and manages competitive grants programs in each country with support from partners in South Africa: The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) and in Brazil: Instituto Sírio-Libanês de Ensino e Pesquisa (IEP).
The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) is a statutory research agency based in South Africa that conducts large-scale, policy relevant, social-scientific research for public sector users, non-governmental organizations and international development agencies. Research activities and structures are closely aligned with South Africa’s national development priorities.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent global health research center at the University of Washington that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world’s most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. IHME makes this information freely available so that policymakers have the evidence they need to make informed decisions about how to allocate resources to best improve population health.
The (IEP), is a healthcare training and research institute in São Paulo located within the Hospital Sírio-Libanês, one of six Brazilian hospitals accredited for Excellency by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. IEP has more 30 years of experience in managing research and multi-professional learning events all over Brazil in collaboration with institutions of varying backgrounds and a wide range of stakeholders. IEP’s activities have allowed the institute to develop and maintain an extensive network of partnerships in building its strong reputation as a ‘Health Think Tank’ in Brazil.
